How to dig in further? Does anyone know the VMware Fusion boot sequence, when it loads up the kexts and how? The vmware binary itself gets executed, I don't know what mechanism is uses to load the kexts, probably it execs the boot script, but if that is the case, I see no reason why it shouldn't work since it works fine on the command line.I am trying to figure out why the scanning on my VPN connected computers is failing.

It asks for my password but after receiving it, it still doesn't load up the kexts. rwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 17074 Apr 4 04:08 /Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/boot.shīut when I reboot OS X and launch VMWare Fusion, running sudo kextstat at that point shows that the kexts are not being loaded. Is nice to be able to ask a question and wind up answering it by the time you are done. I wish I had done this earlier because I ended up deleting my Solaris virtual machine after it went AWOL However, I am glad to report that after I manually loaded the kexts VMWare Fusion behaves again. So I actually went and changed the vm*.kext directory trees to be owned by root:wheel and ran Fusion again, but still no joy. I hope these are the right permissions - I have done nothing to change the VMWare Fusion application since I installed it, so it would be interesting to understand what is actually going wrong. rw-r r 1 root admin 76496 Apr 4 04:01 vmmon Perspectives:Contents $ ls -l vmmon.kext/Contents/MacOS/ rw-r r 1 root admin 1157 Apr 4 04:01 istĭrwxr-xr-x 3 root admin 102 Apr 4 04:01 MacOS/ Perspectives:Contents $ ls -l vmmon.kext/Contents/
